You do not need a referral to book a consultation. If you wish for your health insurance to cover the cost of your consultation, you may need a referral from your GP but you can also pay for services as and when you need them. Contact our self-pay team for more information on paying for your treatment.

No, you don’t need to have private health insurance. Appointments can be either paid directly by you at the end of the consultation or through invoicing the insurance company.

We always recommend contacting your insurance company first, to discuss your visit and seek their authorisation number. You will need to provide that number when making the appointment to avoid being invoiced directly. Dr. Medveczky is recognised by many big insurance companies making this process very easy.

Dr Medveczky will go carefully through your symptoms and your past medical history.  You will receive a new patient questionnaire beforehand, which we ask you to fill in, so we don’t miss any important details. An examination will take place assessing your breathing and how your lungs and heart are working.

You may have a lung function test (spirometry) or breath analysis ( Feno – used to determine the degree of asthma/ inflammation in your lungs ) during this visit. At the end of the consultation, Dr Medveczky will give you a provisional diagnosis and may start treatment straightaway or wait until further tests are back in the coming days. Dr Medveczky may recommend further diagnostic tests such as X-rays/ scans – CT or MRI or blood tests. He will discuss those with you and explain the next steps.

If you have private health insurance and have received prior authorisation then an invoice will be sent directly to the Insurance Company. If you are paying for the Consultation yourself then a card payment can be made at the end of your appointment.

Additional testing to reach a diagnosis may be required for example blood tests, imaging such as X-rays or CT scans, or heart scans ( echocardiogram). These tests are offered and provided by Spire Hospitals and will be charged separately by Spire according to their fees. Please contact Spire for pricing.

Yes, we do, it is a quick and convenient test that can be performed during the consultation to determine your lung function and to confirm/exclude some of the breathing conditions.

Yes, we offer a broad variety of allergy blood tests (no need for skin testing). This is particularly helpful if you have symptoms suggestive of asthma, hay fever, or allergies.

FeNO (fractional exhaled nitric oxide) is a test that measures the levels of nitric oxide in your breath. A high level of nitric oxide when you breathe out can be a sign that you have inflamed airways and could be a sign that you have asthma. This test is often not easily available on the NHS although it is standard in most of the guidelines worldwide. It is very simple to perform breath analysis, which can be done during your consultation.

Depending on your diagnosis, you can start straight away. Dr Medveczky can give you a prescription and inform your GP of your treatment plan. We endeavour to send a copy of your consultation (unless requested not to) within 7 days.
